Land Records are Available Digitally

In an effort to protect the historical integrity of the Carbon County land records and with a generous budget allocation from the Board of Carbon County Commissioners, County Clerk Gwynn Bartlett has had all land records from 1873 to current digitized.  This created 245,998 digitally available records in the county’s system.  According to Clerk Bartlett US Imaging was hired over a year ago to begin the process of scanning each and every page of every book in the clerk’s office and producing quality images of each record along with some indexed fields in the county’s indexing software.

 

The public can now access these valuable resources from the convenience of their own homes or offices with a subscription through iDocMarket.com.   Digital records are also available in the Clerk’s Office at our new location, the Carbon Building ~ Courthouse Annex, 215 W. Buffalo Street, Room 217.

 

“We are excited about this new introduction to the land records and thrilled to bring them to the public with such ease of access.  I want to assure the public that the valuable historic record books will still be safely maintained off site.” said Clerk Bartlett.   She also thanked the Commissioners for the budget allocation to complete the project noting that the project saved a considerable amount of money in the county’s construction project as the books would have taken a large space where the floor would have had to be reinforced.   Included in the project was scanning older county commissioners minutes the clerk is responsible for including OCR text recognition. These records will also be available on the county’s website soon.

 

With this amazing accomplishment there is no longer a need to manually search records through old books.  Every document is available online and electronically in the County Clerk’s Office.   This improves time spent on searches, it is more convenient, preserves the integrity of the old books, and gives access to those who are unable to travel to the Clerk’s Office.
