SALARY INFORMATION 

Entry Level:

$51,110.01  annual Academy Graduate: $53,705.61 annual Top Pay: $58,002.08 annual with longevity raises.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications in the Detention and Patrol Divisions. The Detention Division supervises inmates that are sentenced, or awaiting trial. They provide the essential day to day services for inmates, handle transfers and other duties as directed by the Sheriff.

The Patrol Division under general direction, serves, patrols and investigates incidents in the enforcement of law and order in the protection of life and property. Patrols a designated area for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations, makes building checks, responds to radio and telephone dispatches and appears at scenes of disorder or crime, makes arrests, issues citations, appears in court as arresting officer.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Carbon County is located in the south, central part of Wyoming and is home to the Snowy Range and Elk Mountain where there are abundant opportunities for fishing, hiking, and snowmobiling. It is 7,964 square miles, and has a population of 15,618. Carbon County offers full time benefits including retirement, medical, sick, and vacation time in addition to offering comp time. There is no state tax in Wyoming.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • Age: 18 (for Detention Division)
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: None
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must successfully complete and exam by a physician and a psychologist
  • Detention Division: Must be able to become certified through the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy as a Peace Officer
  • Patrol Division: Must already be certified through a State Law Enforcement Academy
  • Must successfully pass a physical assessment, and written exam
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
