Carbon County Building Permits: Public Service Announcement/Notice

Spring is in the air and many in Carbon County are planning their building projects.  Carbon County requires a building permit for all construction that places new buildings or structures on the land.  Pole barns, shops and garages require a building permit; however, dams, ditches, canals, water wells, tanks and fences less than 8 feet tall do not require a County Building Permit.

The Planning & Development Department will review the building permit application to determine compliance with County zoning and subdivision standards.  If you have questions concerning building standards such as frost protection, plumbing, electrical or structural specifications, you should consult a qualified contractor, architect, or engineer.

The Carbon County Building Permit Application form is now available on the Carbon County website at www.carbonwy.com or you can call the Planning & Development Department at 307-328-2651.

If you have questions concerning septic tanks and individual wastewater disposal systems, please contact the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality at 307-777-6183 or go their website at

If you have need to obtain a well permit or have questions concerning individual water supply wells, please contact the Office of the State Engineer at 307-777-6163.
