JOB DESCRIPTION: The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications in the detention division. The detention division supervises inmates that are sentenced, or awaiting trial. They provide the essential day to day services for inmates, handle transfers and other duties as directed by the Sheriff.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Carbon County is located in the south, central part of Wyoming and is home to the Snowy Range and Elk Mountain where there are abundant opportunities for fishing, hiking, and snowmobiling. It is 7,964 square miles, and has a population of 15,618. Carbon County offers full time benefits including retirement, medical, sick, and vacation time in addition to offering comp time. There is no state tax in Wyoming.


  • Age: 21
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: None
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must successfully complete and exam by a physician and a psychologist
  • Must be able to become certified through the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy as a Peace Officer
  • Must successfully pass a physical assessment, and written exam
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
